The survey
The Price Determinants and Expectations Survey aims to generate information on the dynamics of adjustment and pricing expectations from the perspective of firms. To do so, it inquiries about the perceptions and expectations of firm's managers, regarding the situation of their businesses and some economic variables that could influence their decisions.
On the perceptions side, the survey ask about recent variations in the prices of the products or services sold by the companies. It also inquire into the evolution of various factors associated with the performance of the companies and how these factors may influence variations in their selling prices.
In the expectations section, the respondents are asked about the expected variations in sales prices, costs and other factors related to the company. The survey also measures the inflation expectations of firms, which is of special relevance, considering that these agents are directly involved in price decisions in the economy. These measurements are a complement to existing inflation expectations data from other economic agents, such as experts and financial operators.
The EDEP is applied on a continuous basis to a panel of managers of large firms, from different economic sectors and geographic areas of the country. This survey is published monthly, but its results are analyzed at the moving quarter level, where the accumulated data for that month and the two previous months are considered.
The data from this survey are used for:
