As from issue number 50, the Series of Economic Studies of the Central Bank of Chile will be called Studies in Economic Statistics.

This document describes the methodology used for calculating the value added of the electric generation activity in monthly frequency, based on the 2008 Benchmark Compilation of Chile’s National Accounts. The new methodology is then compared with that used in the previous compilation cycle, which was based on the results of the 2003 benchmark compilation. Finally, by applying the current methodology, we simulate the impact that developing the energy matrix based on different fuels while maintaining a fixed hydrological scenario would have on GDP for 2013.
