Biography

Mr. CLAUDIO SOTO GAMBOA is a commercial engineer from Universidad de Chile and holds an M.S. from the same university and a Ph.D. in economics from New York University (NYU).  Former positions include being the manager of Research and Public Policy at Banco Santander Chile as from 2017 until his appointment as a Board member of the Central Bank of Chile. 

Between 2014 and 2017 he was Chief Macroeconomic Advisor to the Chilean Finance Minister. 

His trajectory at the Central Bank of Chile began as Foreign Trade Analyst and Economic Research Analyst from 1995 to 1998; then Senior Economist with the Economic Research Department from 2002 to 2006; Head of Models & Projects department from 2006 to 2008; and Manager of Macroeconomic Analysis from 2008 to 2014.

He has authored several papers published in specialized journals and chapters in books. Among his academic activities, he has taught various undergraduate and graduate courses in macroeconomics and monetary theory at Universidad de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad Diego Portales.
