Biography

MIGUEL FUENTES DÍAZ was appointed Manager of Financial Stability in July 2023.

Mr. Fuentes graduated as Commercial Engineer with a major in economics (1997). He holds a Master’s Degree in Applied Economics, specializing in applied macroeconomics, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), (1998) and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California-Berkeley (2004).

His previous appointments with the Central Bank include Manager of International Analysis (2020-2023), Manager of Macroeconomic Analysis (2014-2019), Head of the Cojunctural Assesment Section of the Macroeconomic Analysis Unit (2012–2014), and Senior Economist in the Economic Research Unit (2009–2012). He was also Professor at the Economics Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2005–2008) and Editor of the university’s Business Macroeconomic Report (Informe Macroeconómico para la Empresa) (1998–1999).

Mr. Fuentes has also taught courses in macroeconomics, econometrics and international economics completed in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad Alberto Hurtado. He has also worked as a visiting researcher in the International Monetary Fund’s Research Department.

He has participated in numerous national and international seminars and published papers in international academic journals and books, on topics including stabilization policy, exchange rate regimes and international trade.
