June 2020's monthly index of economic activity, Imacec

According to preliminary information, last June the Imacec fell by 12.4% compared to the same month the year before. The seasonally-adjusted series grew 1.7% over the previous month and dropped 13.3% in twelve months. The month came with one more working day than June 2019.

The mining Imacec rose 2.2%, while the non-mining index fell 14.0%. The result of the month was impacted by the effects of the sanitary emergency. In this context, the most affected activities were services and construction, and, to a lesser extent, retail and manufacturing. In services, the decreases in education, transportation, restaurants and hotels, and business services stood out. In seasonally-adjusted terms, and with respect to the previous month, the mining Imacec rose 1.1% and the non-mining Imacec rose 1.7%.

Considering the challenges that the sanitary crisis has posed on the collection of basic data, the Central Bank of Chile has made further efforts along with its information providers to minimize the impact on the quality of statistics. However, it must be noted that the figures delivered on this occasion may be subject to greater revisions than historical records, which will be disclosed according to the calendar of National Accounts publications and revisions available on the Bank's website www.bcentral.cl

According to this calendar, the preliminary second-quarter GDP results, together as the revisions to the first quarter figures, will be published next 18 August.
