Management of the High- Value Payment System of the Central Bank of Chile 2017

Description

Payment systems play a key role in monetary policy effectiveness, financial stability, and the performance of the economy in general. The Central Bank of Chile, under its legal mandate, regulates and supervises the safe and efficient operation of these systems, while acting as both system operator and user in the provision of these services and promoting improvements and advancement in the financial infrastructure.

The oversight of the payment systems contributes to the resilience of the financial system. The considerable value of the transactions processed through these systems and the heightened international concern for financial stability underscore the importance of monitoring the risks to which payment system participants are exposed, in particular systemic risk.
