April 2025’s monthly index of economic activity, Imacec
According to preliminary information, last April the Imacec grew 2.5% compared to the same month the year before (Table 1). The seasonally adjusted series increased 0.6% with respect to the previous month and 3.3% in twelve months. The month registered came with one working day less than April 2024.
The Imacec result was explained by growth in all its components, where the performance of mining and services stood out (Figure 1). The increase in the Imacec in deseasonalized terms was driven by mining (Figure 2).
The non-mining Imacec presented an annual growth of 1.8%, while in seasonally adjusted terms it increased 0.3% with respect to the previous month and 2.4% in twelve months.
Imacec analysis by activity
1. Goods production
The production of goods rose 4.6% in annual terms, a result that owed to all activities. The performance of mining stood out, due to greater copper ore extraction and, to a lesser extent, of other goods, which was driven by construction and fishery. The manufacturing industry activity grew 1.7%.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the production of goods increased by 1.2% from the previous month, explained by the dynamism of mining.
2. Trade
Trade activity presented an increase of 3.9% in annual terms. All its components showed positive results, with retail trade standing out, followed by wholesale trade. The former was driven by higher sales in supermarkets, grocery stores and online sales platforms. Meanwhile, in wholesale trade, sales of machinery and equipment increased.
Seasonally adjusted figures showed a contraction of 0.5% with respect to the previous month, affected by the performance of wholesale and automotive trade.
3. Services
Services increased 1.2% in annual terms, explained by the performance of personal services, particularly health care, and, to a lesser extent, restaurants & hotels, and transportation services.
The seasonally adjusted figures grew 0.4% with respect to the previous month, explained by entrepreneurial services.
