This paper revi ews a set of transparency practices and policies implemented by the Central Bank of Chile over the course of the last few years. Two such policies have to do with its role of policy maker and the other two with institu t ional issues . These ar e actions aimed at a dual objective . On one hand, they seek to generate confidence in the institution, keeping in mind the autonomy that it has been granted to comply with its mandate. On the other hand, they obey to the conviction that good communication with the public and the markets contributes to making policies more effective. While recognizing the tasks and challenges ahead, the policies and practices reviewed here show that these have been applied with consisten c y and seeking to reach the Bank’s var ious functions and areas of operation .
