Description
The paper presents a description of the private non-financial companies sector (SEPnF) from Chile, based on information of assets, liabilities, revenues, expenditure and employment. In 2008, this sector accounted for 70% of the national production. Of this, approximately one third was provided by entities which must periodically report their financial statements to Superintendency of Securities and Insurances. In contrast, 66% of the production of the SEPnF is provided by a large number of companies which are not required to fulfill the requirement before mentioned.
The source of information are administrative records from Internal Tax Service, it cover a universe of 420,000 companies for 2008, approximately. The basic data, aren't exempt from having abnormal or missing records, for that reason they were filtered through statistical methods detailed at the end of this paper.
Among the main findings highlights the fact that attribute such as legal organization, the company size, and the kind of economic industry, they have effects on the composition of assets and liabilities, costs / income and labor productivity. In particular, by combining different variables of the balance sheet and income statement, there are differences between supervised and unsupervised companies in their liquidity ratios, as well as inverse relationships between size and liquidity. In terms of average labor compensation, significant differences are between supervised and unsupervised enterprises, even in the same kind of economic industry.
