ANDRÉS VARGAS POBLETE has served as Manager of Operations and Payment Systems of the Central Bank of Chile since 2019. Mr. Vargas is a Commercial Engineer (1985) and holds an MBA in Administration with specialization in Finance (1999), both from the University of Chile.

He joined the Central Bank of Chile in 1990 as Money Desk Operator (1990–1996) and, later on, he served as Head of the  Department of Open Market Transactions (1997–2004). After the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system had gone operational, he was appointed Head of the Department of Payments and Securities (2004–2010) and, from 2010 and until he undertook his new office, he served as Head of the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems. When holding these posts, his main responsibilities included managing the provision of high-value payment services, their integration with other infrastructures of the financial market, and designing and implementing various operational continuity procedures.

Before joining the Bank, he served as financial consultant and money desk operator at a stock broker company of the Santiago Stock Exchange (1986–1987), and as company credit analyst  and money desk operator at the Sudameris Bank (1987–1990).
