Markus Kirchner

Macroeconomic Analysis


MARKUS KIRCHNER was appointed Manager of Macroeconomic Analysis of the Central Bank of Chile in February 2020. 

Mr. Kirchner holds a Ph.D. in Economics (2011) and a Master of Science in Economics (2006) from the University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands), a Master of Philosophy in Economics (2008) from the Tinbergen Institute (the Netherlands), and a Bachelor of Arts in European Economic Studies (2005) from the University of Bamberg (Germany). He has also studied at the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain (2004–2005).

He joined the Bank in 2011 as a Senior Economist in the Macroeconomic Analysis Unit of the Research Division (2011–2014). He later served as Head of the Modeling and Forecasting Department of the Macroeconomic Analysis Unit (2014-2015) and Head of the Economic Modeling Department of the Modeling and Economic Analysis Unit of the Research Division (2015–2018).

Prior to joining the Bank, he worked as a research intern at the Economic Research Centre of Deutsche Bundesbank (German Federal Bank) (2011) and as a consultant for the Fiscal Policies Division of the Directorate General Economics of the European Central Bank (2010), where he had also worked as a research intern (2009).

Mr. Kirchner has lectured at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the University of Amsterdam, the Tinbergen Institute, and the University of Bamberg, where he has taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses in macroeconomics, econometrics, and monetary and financial economics.
