Fourth Annual Conference of the Central Bank of Chile
10 Years of inflation targeting: Design, Performance, Challenges
Santiago, Chile, November 30 - December 1st, 2000
Inflation targeting is an innovative approach to monetary policy being applied by a growing number of central banks around the globe. This conference celebrates ten years of inflation targeting in the world and in Chile. In addition, the conference commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Central Bank of Chile.
The Fourth Annual Conference of the Central Bank of Chile will provide an opportunity to present and discuss new research on monetary regimes based on inflation targeting. The conference will review the performance of inflation targeting in achieving the goals of price and output stability, particularly in comparison to other monetary regimes. Some studies will examine the best ways to design policy objectives and responses under inflation targeting. Other papers will consider implementation issues, such as modelling in an uncertain environment and policy coordination in the domestic and international realms. Issues relevant to open economies will be emphasized throughout the conference, and some studies will specifically consider the case of economies in transition to low inflation. All papers will present original contributions, ranging from theoretical analysis to empirical work, and will be authored by leading scholars and central bank researchers from countries around the world.
The Conference is aimed at a target audience of academics, policy makers, and representatives of international financial institutions.
