Third Annual Conference of the Central Bank of Chile

Monetary Policy: Rules and Transmission Mechanisms

Santiago, Chile, September 20-21, 1999

Conference Objective: The aim of this conference is to discuss new analytical and empirical research on monetary transmission and monetary policy rules. Some conference papers will contribute to a better understanding of the channels through which monetary policy affects prices and output, and how structural features (like financial integration), the choice of policy instruments, and the exchange-rate regime affect transmission mechanisms. Other papers will analyze country-specific monetary policy rules, shedding light on the way central banks react to changes in the economic environment of their respective countries. Theoretical contributions will be complemented by empirical studies. While the Chilean experience will receive some emphasis, the conference focus is international, considering both cross-country and selected country case studies.

The Conference is targeted at an audience comprised by policy makers, academics, and representatives of international financial institutions.
