The Watermark

When the note is held up to the light the portrait of Andrés Bello can be seen clearly defined. The watermark is obtained through varying the thickness of the paper and it can be seen from both sides of the note.

The Coinciding Motif

When the note is held up to the light a book, an inkwell and quill, surrounded by two laurel wreaths, which have been partially printed on both sides of the banknote are revealed.

The Security Thread

The security thread is embedded in the paper and when the note is held up to the light, the thread will appear as a dark stripe in which the words “VEINTE MIL” are visible in white.

 

The paper

This banknote is printed on pure cotton paper, which gives it a firm and resistant texture that feels rough to the touch.

The raised print

The technique used in the printing feels thicker to the touch when you run your fingers over it or scratch it gently with your fingernail. You can feel the raised ink on the portrait of Andrés Bello on the face of the banknote and on the engraving of the main campus of the University of Chile on the back of the banknote.

The Hidden Image

Tilt the banknote at eye level and the letters “BC” will become visible on the on the lower right corner of the face of the note.

Iridiscent Band

Tilt the note and a shiny blue colored band with the number “20000” will appear on the face of the banknote. The outline of the band is clearly defined and, and there are no detectable raised edges.

Color-Shifting Ink

Tilt the note and the number “20” changes color from light green to bluish green.

Fluorescent fibers

When the banknote is held under ultra-violet light, the paper itself does not glow but small fibers embedded in the paper and scattered randomly across both sides of the note, glow yellow and blue.

The serial numbers change color

On the face of the note the serial numbers look yellowish green under ultra-violet light.

Fluorescent Disc

On the back of the note a florescent disc will appear on the center of the bottom of the note when it is seen under ultra-violet light.
