SEBASTIÁN CLARO E. was appointed Board Member of the Central Bank of Chile in December 2007 for a regular ten-year term.

Mr. Claro joined the Economics Institute at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) as an assistant professor, and became an Associate Professor of Economics in 2007, where he teaches courses in international economics, trade theory, and macroeconomics. At the moment of being appointed to the Central Bank he worked as a full time professor for the same university.

He has published extensively on international academic journals on the Chinese economic transformation process as well as on the role of intermediaries on international trade. He has also worked as a consultant for firms and international bodies. He is author of the book La Pregunta de la Reina (Pearson, 2010) on the causes of the 2008-2009 global financial crisis.

Mr. Claro graduated in Business Economics in 1995, and received his Master’s degree in Applied Macroeconomics in 1996 from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He also received a Ph.D. in Economics from University of California at Los Angeles, in 2001.
