RICARDO VICUÑA P. has been appointed Statistics Division Director at the Central Bank of Chile since May 2008.
Previously, he was Manager of Statistical Information and Research at the Central Bank of Chile since December 2000 and Manager of Foreign Trade and Trade Policy from 1998 to 2000, and the Manager of Trade Policy from 1995 to 1998.
Mr. Vicuña has a degree in commerce from the University of Chile and a Master of Arts and PhD in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, with majors in monetary and international economics, and economic development.
Before starting at the Central Bank he was an advisor to the Minister of Finance, from 1990 to 1994, in the fields of international trade and foreign investment. Moreover, he participated as a member of Chile’s negotiating team in the free trade agreements signed with Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia and he represented the finance ministry in the anti-monopoly commission (Comisión Preventiva Antimonopolios) and the commission on import price distortions (Comisión de Distorsiones de las Mercaderías Importadas).
Mr. Vicuña also teaches international trade and economic integration at the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences at the University of Chile.
