RODRIGO CIFUENTES S. has been Manager of Financial Research of the Central Bank of Chile since April 2010.
He graduated in business studies and received a Master degree in Economics from the Catholic University of Chile, and holds a Master’s and Doctorate degree in Economics from HarvardUniversity.
Formerly, Mr. Cifuentes worked as Manager of Financial Stability of the Central Bank of Chile(2006-2010), Senior Economist at the Division of Systematic Risk Reduction of the Bank of England (2005-2006), and as Senior Economist of the Financial Policy Division of the Central Bank of Chile (2000-2005), in this position, he was responsible for editing and coordinating the Financial Stability Report (IEF) issued by the Central Bank of Chile. At the same time, he was a member of the Working Group on insurance deposits of the Financial Stability Forum (2000- 2001). As senior researcher he also visited the International Finance Division of the Bank of England (June 2002-June 2003).
Before joining the Central Bank in 2000, he was associate researcher at the Harvard Institute for International Development (1999), at the Economics Institute of the Catholic University of Chile and at the Corporation for Latin American Economic Research (Cieplán) (1992-1994). He has been advisor to the World Bank (1994-1995) and consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (1999) as well as for the Central Bank of Ecuador (1994).
He has been professor at the Economics Institute of the Catholic University of Chile, and at the Economics Department and the Center of Applied Economics of the University of Chile. He has published many works in academic publications and is referee of international economic periodicals.
