KEVIN COWAN LOGAN has been appointed Financial Policy Division Director of the Central Bank of Chile as from December 2007.
Mr. Cowan graduated in business studies from the Catholic University of Chile in 1995 and received his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2002.
He was research coordinator at the Central Bank’s Financial Policy Division from 2006 to 2007 where he had been Senior Economist in the Studies Division during 2005 and 2006.
Mr. Cowan previously worked in the Studies Department of the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) from 2002 to 2005, prior to which he was advisor to the Finance Ministry (1995-1998), research assistant at the Catholic University of Chile and international organizations consultant (IDB, World Bank, UN).
He is professor of macroeconomics at the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Chile and teaches a course in economic development and finance. He has spoken at various international conferences and he is author of a series of academic publications, has contributed chapters to several books on international macroeconomics and financial markets and co-editor of two books. He is also co-editor of the magazine Economía Chilena and associate editor of the magazine of the Latin American Economics Association (Lacea) since 2006.
