ALVARO ROJAS OLMEDO is the Foreign Affairs Manager of the Central Bank of Chile since July 2010.  He received his economist degree from the Universidad de Chile (1993), and both a Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees (2004) in International Economy from the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) in the United States.

Before his current position at the Bank, he worked as Head Adviser to the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. (2006-2010) where he represented Chile at several IMF meetings.  Previously, he had also worked for this international agency as a Consultant to the Executive Director (April and October 2000), and as Assistant Researcher in the IMF’s Research Department. (September 1999 to March 2000).

From 1993 to 2006, he worked for the Central Bank of Chile where he held several positions:  Chief of the International Money Desk Department of the International Investments Management (2004-2006), Senior Economist at the International Economy Department of the International Division Management (2001-2004) and Economist at the Research and International Divisions (1993 -1997).

Among the academic activities he has performed are Professor of Macroeconomics (2011), International Monetary Economy (2001–2004) and International Trade (2002–2006) at the Universidad Finis Terrae, Econometrics and Statistics Assistant Professor for Economists and Intermediate Macroeconomy at the University of California, Santa Cruz (1998 and 1999); and Assistant Professor of Monetary Economy at the Universidad de Chile 1994.

He has also participated in different courses and special field seminars and has carried out several publications mainly related to international subjects.
